Western Australia Lotteries
Lotteries have a long history in Western Australia. In 1932, the Lotteries Control Act was enacted to address the rise of private lotteries and sweepstakes.
Under the Lotteries Control Act, the Lotteries Commission of Western Australia was established to conduct lotteries and issue permits for the singular purpose of funding charitable organizations.
Initially the Commission was required to obtain approval from the Minister before granting or rejecting permit applications. However, following several amendments to the Act, the Commission was granted sole authority to issue application decisions, independent of the Minister.
