Tasmania Online Gaming
The Tasmanian Gaming Commission is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the licensing and day-to-day regulation of Tasmania's online gaming sector. The application fee for a Tasmanian Gaming License is AUD 43,200. A Tasmanian gaming license lasts five years and is renewable.
In early 2008, Tasmania was added to the United Kingdom's whitelist of jurisdictions that are allowed to advertise online gambling in the U.K. Tasmania was one of the first three jurisdictions outside the U.K. mainland to be added to the list. Due to changes in U.K. gambling law, Tasmanian licensees will now have to get a U.K. license as well to operate in the U.K.
In 2011/2012, Knight Errant Pty Ltd was approved and added to the list of accredited testing facilities to test online gaming equipment and software.
A social and economic impact study in March 2015 found that fewer Tasmanians were making bets in brick-and-mortar establishments, and that the rise in online gambling was one of the major reasons.
