Queensland Charitable Gaming

Charitable gaming in Queensland consists of bingo and raffles. A permit is not required to conduct raffles up to AUD 2,000. If a club is an "eligible association," it may conduct raffles up to AUD 20,000 without a permit.

Charitable gaming activities include raffles, sweeps, Calcutta sweeps, football doubles, lucky door prizes and bingo. Under the Charitable and Non-Profit Gaming Act 1999, different games are broken into four categories:

Category 1 includes raffles, sweeps, Calcutta sweeps, football doubles, lucky door prizes and bingo. The gross proceeds do not exceed AUD 2,000 and activities may be conducted as a nonprofit organization and sometimes as an individual.

Category 2 games include all the games a Category 1 license includes but the gross proceeds may be more than AUD 2,000 but no more than AUD 20,000. Category 2 games may be conducted by an eligible nonprofit association.

Category 3 games include raffles or art unions where gross proceeds are more than AUD 20,000. Category 3 games may be conducted by an eligible, incorporated nonprofit.

Special Category 3 games are intended for a person who wishes to conduct a single art union for the benefit of individuals who are victim to a disaster or are disadvantaged individuals.

Category 4 games are free-entry draws intended to promote goods or services.
