Northern Territory Casino and Card Room Gaming

After 1977, the federal government was granted jurisdiction over gambling in the Northern Territory and quickly passed the Casino Development Act, which created legislation that permitted casinos. The two casinos in the Northern Territory operate in Alice Springs and Darwin.

The Gaming Machine Act of 1995 permitted clubs and hotels to operate gaming machines. There are more than 1,000 gaming machines in operation in the Territory at over 70 locations including clubs and hotels.
